Toklas x Todoli Marmalades

Toklas Bakery collaborated with the Todoli Citrus Fundació in Valencia on a range of marmalades featuring some of the orchards beautiful fruit.
The Todoli foundation was created for the research and conservation of citrus biodiversity. As such they have nearly 500 varieties of citrus produced in their outdoor orchard.
For this collaboration, I was asked to create a range of label designs for these products.

With Toklas and Todoli being owned by people in the art world I wanted something that felt right for this type of client.
Taking a look at the citrus used in the marmalades they tend to have inconsistent sizing and pigmentation. Each piece feels unique and I wanted that to come across visually.
My thought was to use ink paintings to replicate the colours that bleed into each other on the skin surfaces. Additionally, it is a quick medium that allows for many ideas to generated quickly.
It became apparent very quickly that I was not the person for the job with regards to painting. Thankfully my much more artistically talented partner Chieri bailed me out. (She told me to not write this and say that I brought her in as a "collaborator").
She deserves all the credit on this job.
